  • How to avoid careless mistakes - by identifying keywords, drawing simple model, writing word descriptions, checking magnitude of numbers, checking last digit of numbers.
  • How to apply basic and advance problem solving techniques – by following examples and practising on similar questions.
  • How to identify correct technique to use – by looking out for characteristics in the question, keywords. We summarise the techniques into a simple to remember mnemonic.
  • How to solve new word problems – by identifying the right technique to use, applying the steps for that technique, following through to answer the question.
  • All practises are done on actual past year top school exam questions.
  • Your child will gain confidence in being able to break down a complex question into simple steps and find the solution. This removes the stress of facing a major examination and focus on the learning process.
  • You child will develop the growth mindset, knowing that he/she is able to improve and meet future challenges.

What is Ms Ng's Approach to Teaching Mathematics?

  • Emphasize Concept - We start with learning the concepts associated with the topic.
  • Encourage writing descriptions  - We require students to write descriptions of each step of working. This helps them focus on the logical connections between each step and strengthen their understanding of the solution. This also gives meaning to the numbers, instead of randomly applying an operation to the numbers.
  • Practise on similar questions - Our practises are grouped into topics and subtopics, so that students can keep applying the same technique to similar types of questions. This helps them link the characteristics of the questions and the technique required.
  • Online explanations and hard copy worksheets - While the lessons are conducted online via zoom, the practises are done by the students using hard copy. This mimics the exam environment where the medium is still pen and paper. 
  • Assigned Homework - Homework will be assigned so that the student has much more practise time beyond the regular lessons. Homework will be scanned and submitted, so that the mistakes can be identified for each student.
  • Timely Assistance - Students can send queries via Whatsapp anytime 24/7. There is no need to wait till the next lesson to seek assistance!
  • Final Revision - A special session will be conducted on the Friday of the September holidays to cover the difficult questions in the top school preliminary exams of that year. This serves as a final revision for the upcoming PSLE in early Oct.

About Ms Ng

  • She was in the Gifted Education Program at Raffles Girls’ School and went on to Raffles Junior College.
  • She represented her schools in Asian Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO), the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) and the Singapore International Mathematical Olympiad (SIMO).
  • She completed an accelerated undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the National University of Singapore (NUS), placed on the Dean’s List / Vice Chancellor’s List every year. .
  • Ms Ng also obtained a Masters in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University in the USA.

Ms Ng has helped more than 100 students since 2020. In PSLE 2021, 80% of students obtained AL1, AL2 or had a one grade increase from Prelims to PSLE.
